President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered the immediate setup of a “tent city” in Bogo City to provide temporary shelter for residents displaced by the recent 6.9-magnitude earthquake.
During his visit to the city on September 2, the President said many residents are still afraid to return to their homes or even to damaged evacuation centers due to safety concerns.
“They’re afraid to go back into buildings, and they prefer to stay outside. We will follow their preference, which is why we’re proposing a tent city,” Marcos explained.
The government will use large medical field tents from the Philippine Red Cross, similar to those deployed during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The President assured that these tents are quick to set up and can withstand rain.
He also emphasized that the temporary shelter will be equipped with basic necessities.
“We will ensure there is a food supply, water supply, and electricity – we’ll use generators if needed,” he said. “Whatever the people need, we will make sure it’s available.”
