President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. emphasized on Sunday the government’s investigation into corrupt infrastructure projects must build solid, evidence-backed cases, warning that rushing with weak evidence would be worse than taking more time.
In his Youtube BBM podcast streamed on Sunday, Marcos explained that filing incomplete or unclear cases could lead to the courts dismissing them.
“Can you imagine? I think that would be much, much worse,” he said, noting that a lost case would only embolden the guilty and damage the government’s credibility.
While he believes many individuals linked to questionable flood control projects are “not innocent,” he stressed that the government must operate within the law.
“If you’re going to bring them to court, you must have a very strong case,” he said.
Marcos created the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) in September through Executive Order No. 94 to lead the probe into suspected anomalies in public works projects.
He has also launched a public reporting website, “Sumbong sa Pangulo,” to give citizens a direct channel to report substandard or non-existent projects. — iNewsPH.com
