The national government has ordered the immediate removal of all politicians’ names and photos from public projects like roads, buildings, and community programs.
In a nationwide directive dated January 29, 2026, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) instructed all local governments—from provinces down to barangays—to take down any signage, tarpaulin, or marker that features the name, image, logo, or slogan of a public official if the project was paid for using taxpayers’ money.
“Government projects are not personal billboards,” said DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla. “These are funded by the people and must reflect public service, not political promotion.”
The order reinforces existing laws that prohibit public officials from using government projects for personal publicity. Officials who fail to comply will be held accountable.
The DILG also encouraged citizens to report any project markers that still display officials’ names or photos, reminding the public that public funds are for public service—not for personal publicity. — iNewsph.com
