Former Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief retired General Rodolfo Azurin Jr. has been appointed as Special Adviser and Investigator of the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI), the Office of the President announced on September29.
In his new role, Azurin will help lead investigations into the alleged misuse of public funds for flood control and other infrastructure projects over the last decade.
The government stated that Azurin’s experience in law enforcement and leadership is expected to help the ICI fulfill its main goal of ensuring accountability and transparency in how the government spends taxpayer money on major projects.
This new appointment follows the resignation of the previous special adviser, Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. established the ICI on September 11 through Executive Order No. 94, with the mission to investigate corruption in flood control and infrastructure projects over the past decade and recommend legal action against those found responsible.
The commission is composed of Supreme Court Justice Andres Reyes Jr. as ICI Chairperson, former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Rogelio Singson, and SGV and Co. Country Managing Partner Rossana Fajardo as members.
Azurin will begin his new duties after he completes his personal and administrative arrangements. — iNewsPH.com
